Re: Misty Memories Of 2 Russell Street

It's not heresy with me. I think Keydge went downhill when they started to make their products in China. I wear my Keydge like a thick cardigan and as it is slightly oversized it is a bit slouchy. In the circles I move in I don't feel like a slob wearing it though. I see Vetra as a bit different.

Re: Misty Memories Of 2 Russell Street

The problem with Keydge, as I see it, is that everybody was suddenly onto it, so it was bound to end in tears.  I quite the look of some Vetra and would have worn that blue cord jacket quite happily about fifteen years ago.  Not now.

Runninggeez, I hadn't heard that. Good news if true. I have a lightweight cotton one that was ideal for those of us who had the misfortune to live in hot climates.

I like Vetra a lot. I just wish they had a vent.
With regard to Keydge earlier this year I bought a new Seersucker from them.
Not sure if it was simply old stock or genuinely new product.

Re: Misty Memories Of 2 Russell Street

Living in Birmingham, 2 Russell Street wasn't a regular haunt for me but I clearly remember the first time I visited it in the late Eighties.
I had stumbled across it whilst probably looking for Paul Smith. I was about to go on holiday and wanted a few pieces to take away with me.
Something caught my eye in the window and I ended up going in.
What immediately blew me away was the choice of loafers. I had never seen some many options in style, colour and even materials.
The guy who served me was about my age, late teens, and was wearing deck shoes that weren't laced-up but had the laces curled into knots.
I ended up buying the exact same light blue suede deck shoe. They were Sebago?
On the shoe display there was also one of the best looking suede loafers I'd ever seen. I'm sure they were Cole Haan as I recognised the name from my travels stateside.  Unfortunately they didn't have me size.
He also showed me a light blue blouson that looked equally sharp but wasn't really what I was looking for.
It's funny how I can clearly remember clothes shops from the Eighties but if you asked me what I had for dinner last Saturday I couldn't tell you.

I can't help wondering if the guy serving you was our Gibson (TRS).

RG & AS, I took a look at their IG, according to a comment "JKeydge restart a craft activity RTW-MTO made in France". Sounds promising!

Re: Misty Memories Of 2 Russell Street

Like Alvey I bemoan the lack of a rear vent on Vetra jackets. However Sean in JS did tell me that discussions are being had with them to produce a vented version for SS22 (another acronym) so keep an eye on that.

I loved the Keydge jackets, the cut and fit were ideal for me but, as 2RS says, towards the end something changed for the worse. Their Ivy Slack Jacket in cotton twill or corduroy was aimed at fans of the look and it hit the spot.  Mine see regular wear in spring, summer and autumn, I still have a promotional shop card with a nice line drawing of the Slack jacket inside. Keydge seemed to get the design and marketing of the Slack jacket right, but they could never produce enough to meet the demand from their small number of stockists. The rest of their range varied from the indifferent to being a bit zany and their website was well …. just a bit French.

There was a flurry of activity on the J Keydge IG page about 3 months ago but seems to have gone quiet since. On a more positive note, the latest JS cord jackets fill the gap very nicely, they are more expensive but are made of lush Brisbane Moss cord - lovely!
