@Alvey, which is why I loved Ian Strachan's thought process when he sold up the Ivy Shop Richmond. He could see the demise of the US clothing industry and took enough shoes, sweaters & shirts to last him a lifetime.
And most of us on this site would buy 2 decent t shirts rather than 10 cheap Primark ones. I do a bit of recycling of shirts with friends and cousins. Some of us appear to use charity shops as well. We tend to keep our clothes rather than bung them out after a couple of washes. We look after our footwear. I have shoes over 30 years old. Resoled occasionally. The Ivy crew are innocent of planet destroying. The elite that tell us how we should behave are the real guilty ones.
Talking of shirts, just landed a blue Brooks Brothers 6 button OCBD Makers in VGC possibly/probably from the 1980's courtesy of eBay. Slightly more than I would normally pay, but happy.
Clarks desert boots 2 currently half price on Clark’s Outlet site. Free postage.

(Not actually popped through my door yet but I cannot see a ‘Sales’ topic on here.)
The Clarks desert boots 2 for £55 is a bargain. I just wish that they had not included the Clarks writing on the side of the heel.
Agree about the engraved branding. The Astorflex has the brand engraved on the tongue.
The need to have branding and logos on anything is regrettable and perhaps a reflection of people’s insecurity. A need to walk around saying ‘look - I can afford this’. I don’t get it, but then I’ve never been status conscious. I largely avoid logos on clothing, I’m quite happy with a Post It note on my lapel saying - ‘Brook Brothers jacket, John Simons shirt, Levis jeans, Bass loafers’.
i’ve been deliberately trying to eschew labels for the last couple of years, not always successfully but 99% of the time I manage. I like to think of it as “if you know, you know?? - and as a massive generalization, the better stuff doesn’t have a label stamped on the boob for exactly that reason.
Hate labels - the only item of clothing I'd make an exceptional for would be an izod lacoste polo shirt. For some reason it just looks a bit more 'balanced' to my eye.
Going back to Clarks desert boots, Tower have a light tan boot in sizes 7 & 9 for £65 in their sale. The classic Cola colour is also on sale but £97

A couple of days ago a merino wool crew neck from ' Arket', on first inspection better than Uniqlo, about 15 quid more expensive, but still a reasonable price, I'll see how it wears and if I'm happy with it I'll probably go back for their l/s merino polos, plus a khaki cotton baseball cap, no logos, ( for my hols in a couple of weeks), again the cotton seems very good, decent shape, but I know bugger all about bb caps,
Fitzgerald chambray button down from eBay. Just served to remind me how I wished I’d bought more Fitz shirts when they were available. Great fit.
Also a pair of cheap ‘playboy’ desert/chukka boots. I was never sure if I’d like these, but I do now. Any recommendations for a ‘good’ pair?
A Marks and Spencer button down which I take to come from the era when they owned Brooks Brothers. Quite a heavy Oxford type cloth but with a madras-like check pattern which should look okay under a corduroy jacket.

Are you saying you’re after a pair or now have a pair and like them? Sadly if you want a good pair there’s not really a cheap option. eBay search for Sanders is a good start, I believe JS had an Astorflex shoe that was similar but very casual in style. The best ones are of course the Hutton but they are certainly not a cheap option.

I recently discovered a couple of these Brooks era M&S oxfords at the back of my storage. Good shirts. As you say, good heavy weight and nice collar. I compared with my USA made Brooks and to be honest there's hardly any difference.

@Tomiskinky I bought a cheap pair and have discovered I like them, so I’m now considering a better pair. Thanks for the suggestions.
Not sure you size but check out the sanders outlet section on their site
https://www.sanders-uk.com/sale
The only thing about Sanders Playboys is the soles which are murderously slippery in the wet. The uppers are great quality and last and last if they are looked after. The crepe sole units wear down but you can get them repaired at Rushtons Shoes comparatively cheaply, so a pre-owned pair are feasible.
Useful to know re resoling ^^^ was never totally happy with the toe shape of the Sanders I must admit

Try them on first. You will probably need to size up. There is not much depth in the toe box either. Look at them from the side it’s mostly the deep crepe sole. So your foot may feel constricted.

I wonder if that place off Brick Lane - Blackmans - is still knocking them out cheap?
Never in stock when I looked and post covid the shop only seems to open at the weekends and on Thursdays.
Our East End poster Tom (above) had more luck buying from there.

Ha, I did - scored many a pair, still wear those I first bought. Not seen Phil have any stock in for a few years tbh, maybe in part to Sanders having the outlet on their site.
If you can source a pair, the round toe version (Sno last) have more room in the toe, I have 3 pairs like that and 3 with the pointed Joel last, some are unworn others only lightly. I also found a pair of Sanders from before they started doing the preformed sole unit which are much closer in style to the original Hutton's but I wear these sparingly as like the first pair I bought from Blackman's the crepe is incredibly soft (compared to those made now).
I have just returned from the States. Prior to going I ordered some Quoddy camp-mocs in grain leather. They call them Canoe Shoes.
First off the shoes. Great thick leather. They feel really substantial. The Vibram sole adds structure. They’re lined so more of a spring/Autumn shoe.Due to the construction they’ll will need breaking in.
But what amazing service. I wasn’t sure on sizing and they were very helpful. The first pair I ordered was too small. I was struggling to get the next size up due to my return flight to the UK. The replacements reached me in plenty of time and without paying additional postage.
Traditional quality of product and service.
I've been rambling along the Thames Estuary every day and occasionally ending up at TKMaxx, Southend. Last week I got excited when I spotted a Baracuta, made in England rain mac for £125. Unfortunately, it was a one off xs and no other sizes available. Frazer lining, stone colour it looked pretty good. It went straight away. I bought a couple of Folkclothing t -shirts and missed out on a cotton crew neck jumper, that I was interested in, as it went while I was dithering.
I'm suspicious of the items from Folkclothing in TKMaxx. I never see the same products for sale on their website. Are they making cheaper products for TKMaxx to get their name out there? The products I have bought are well made, however.
Robbie - you seem to have some success in TKMx, although I recall you've mentioned it's 10 trips for 1 success, after hearing other posters having some success there as well I've made a couple of trips to TKMx Reading, ( big store), on the odd occasions I've had reason to go there, I just come out depressed,I don't see any of the stuff you mention, what I see depresses me, and without being unkind some of the shoppers do as well, maybe they stock for a more discerning customer in Southend , haha,
