Square button on a sports-coat

Recently, I was watching Rush Hour 3. So, so movie. However, I was greatly impressed by Max von Sydow's wardrobe.

One scene in particular stayed with me. Max von Sydow is in a hotel room with the model/actress Noemie Lenoir's character. He has on a roll-neck and a well-cut SB sports-coat. I can't remember if it was 2 or 1 button. But the button was a square button. Nothing too in your face, but it was a nice touch.

Has anyone come across this before? What are your thoughts on a square button on a sports-coat (say in a POW check)?

Have a good day,
Bolaji

Re: Square button on a sports-coat

I would say the biggest question would be if Lenoir is in the room, what are you doing noticing buttons at all?

But to answer your question, and i havent seen the buttons, I wouldnt do it unless the suit is:

1. For casual situations or you work in a fashion forward industry.

2. You are a Bond villain.

Re: Square button on a sports-coat

Wouldn't it be potentially more difficult for a square button to pass through a buttonhole?  I'm envisioning problems if the side of the button does not meet directly with the hole and a corner of the button causes a snag.  Also, if the square butons on the cuff are not aligned, it might look a little sloppy.
