An Image Beyond The Pale: Sandals With Socks

I might have dreamt this, but I'm pretty sure there's a black and white photograph somewhere of Modernists, one of whom is wearing the dreaded aforementioned combination.  Is it, by any chance, in 'The Influential Factor'?  The book was once on sale at Russell Street.  Some kind of prize should be awarded to any poster identifying it.  I seem to remember him wearing a mac, too.  Even worse than the 'French Look' - but that was understandable in the context of wanting to convince your birds parents that your intentions were strictly honourable (or at least until they'd fixed the johnny machine down at the 'Dog And Duck').
Yes, a prize.

True Dad’s Style, the sort of ridiculous tourist look that Don Martin would sport on vacation and therefore potentially within the Ivy radar scope. I don’t mind trying it … but you go first.

A quick Googling shows that this is currently a hot trend embraced by such fashion messiahs as David Beckham, especially when practiced with a pair of ‘sliders’ (backless sandals). I had only got used to the concept that a slider was a miniature hamburger.

On Page 105 of 'The Hip', Gerry Mulligan appears to be wearing sandals.  He also appears to be wearing socks.

Just an observation.
