'Strangers On A Train': The Style Of Farley Granger
... as opposed to that of Robert Walker, with his excellent hats (Knox?) and appalling shoes... Those opening shots, contrasting the shoes, the style... Button-downs are to be seen here and there, but my favourite look is Guy when leaving the tennis match, jacket over tennis shirt and sports sweater (exactly like my own), still wearing tennis shoes - what make might they have been in 1951?
I guess I'd call Granger's look 'Ivy League'. Why not? Robert Walker, though, is very, very different: more 'American gentleman'. The majority of the other male characters don't dress too differently. Catch them not wearing a tie or sensible lace-ups!

It is. On DVD. Must be watched at least twice.
Robert Walker was cast against type.

I think her Ripley books are superb.
I can't wait to see the new TV adaptations when they finally hit our screens.

I went through the card pretty much with Highsmith around 1998. I'd bought a first edition in an unlikely place, a village hall jumble sale: 'Those Who Walk Away'. I even read the later fiction, some of which is very dull indeed. But, at her best, she was excellent. High time I reread some of the early novels.

I think Talented isn't the best of the Ripley books.
