EDWIN JEANS - WHO KNOWS

As part of this years Ivy Wish List I want some ecru jeans.  (Now stop rolling your eyes I didn't say white)

Edwin look good in the photos but has anyone out there got experience of this brand - not necessarily in ecru.

With a significant increase in mortgage rates and energy bills, 2022 looks like being a year of greater consideration and focus. I need more precision is my purchasing.

Re: EDWIN JEANS - WHO KNOWS

Alvey, I’ve had a pair of blue ED55’s for a good few years now. Couldn’t be happier with them.

Stonewash, and even after a lot of wear, and a lot of time on my knees doing kid’s stuff, they haven’t gone white or show any signs of wearing thin in that area, which is usually the first to go I find.

I’d put them just behind Lee 101z and a long way in front of standard Levis in terms of quality.

The selvedge is a kind of rainbow colour. If you don’t care about that I recommend them.

Just to add to above. Mine are Japanese. I think they’re also made in Turkey. Can’t say if there’s any difference between the two.

Re: EDWIN JEANS - WHO KNOWS

Against Yuca's advice, I bought grey - a kind of silver grey and more like chinos than jeans.  I've only worn them around the house (same with the black Wranglers: they also incurred Yuca's displeasure).  They've now been set aside for the next charity bag that comes through the letterbox (the black Wranglers have been turned - more or less - into work wear: I'm stripping furniture with acid).  Yuca was right, I was wrong.
TRS, however, is a long-standing fan of Edwin.  He may comment when he finds time.
Is 'ecru' more or less the same as 'wheat'?  Off-white - yes - a good choice, as with sports socks.

I got a pair of ecru jeans from TKMaxx this winter. Fantastic quality, well made and high waist fit, made by All Saints but after searching I haven't been able to find another pair. Don't know if they were a sample pair but I'd buy them again if I could.

Re: EDWIN JEANS - WHO KNOWS

Robbie, I had a similar experience in TKMaxx with an All Saints jacket. Cotton, but substantial. Not summer weight. Unlined, soft shoulder, centre vent, very slight darts. Three button rather than 3/2 but for the peanuts it cost it was worth getting my guy to shorten the sleeves and still be a good buy. Never found anything like it on line so I’ve always presumed that was a sample too.

Ecru jeans seem to be all over The High Street right now. (Purists stop reading now) I recently picked up two pairs, one Zara, one M&S. Both perfectly acceptable. They wouldn’t please denim or USA/Japan heads. But the cut and quality is absolutely fine. Decent rise. Good classic fit etc.

I wouldn’t entertain those shops for blue jeans. But I did a quick mental calculation on how often I’m actually going to wear them. And how long I’ll be out the door before some white denim incident befalls them and they end up languishing in the laundry bin, and I reckon they’re a good deal.

White Levis are like white socks - a risk.  Our Gibson is a fan (David Hemmings/'Blow Up' territory), although he may not indulge now.  I gave up on them long ago - but, boy, did I enjoy wearing them.  The only trouble is/was - they're a touch Stevie Marriott (and we all know what that means, don't we - the dreaded M Word)...
Spendthrift, if AUS can wear clothing from Next you can surely cut the mustard with M&S and Zara.  I'm still partial to an old M&S lambswool sweater myself.  We've not heard from our esteemed Horace for quite a while but I'm pretty sure it was he who talked up English and Scottish knitwear.  That seal of approval allowed me - as it were - to stop chasing USA-made sweaters and cardigans so diligently.

Nothing ventured . . .

Far out, man.

Stripping, old bongo player, not dropping.  But the post was amusing.

Re: EDWIN JEANS - WHO KNOWS

Pure white are a long way behind me. I don’t think I’ve worn ‘white’ 501s since my teens. Which is where they belong for me. And yes. To me they’re very Marriott, Style Council. A bit too pop star ‘look at me’. Which isn’t my style at all these days.

If nothing else, shirts excepted, white is a very stark colour to pull off. Like black. Much more difficult than people imagine.

Ecru or off white is different though isn’t it? In the right setting, with knowledge and confidence I reckon it can be carried off. Sockless, with an indigo shirt and olive jacket? Or burgundy, navy or dark green polo?

Re: EDWIN JEANS - WHO KNOWS

I probably wouldn't wear the ecru jeans in town but I can see myself strolling along the Thames estuary on a summers day wearing the jeans. whenever I'm at my place in Leigh on sea I feel like I'm on my holidays anyway.

Re: EDWIN JEANS - WHO KNOWS

I’d wear them in MY Town. But not the neighbouring one!

Re: EDWIN JEANS - WHO KNOWS

Edwin jeans, not only the most comfortable pair of jeans I own, but my favourite.
Bought my first ever pair of Edwin's in 1985.
