So J.Press, on Ebay, is now 'Ska/Skinhead'. What must be running through the 'mind' of a seller like that other than making a few measly pounds to spend on cheap cider? How did a J.Press shirt come into their possession in the first place? What would The Guv'Nor say? What would TRS say? What would Jimbo have said? This is agonising.
It's a nice shirt, too. I have several like it: mostly Brooks and a B.D.Baggie.
And what would Dick Press think?! In his patchwork madras head it's still Dartmouth '56. Frank Sinatra is a dangerous radical, and wearing pale blue is a sign of deviancy.
Is it university stripe? Or is it candy stripe? I never know, quite. I seem to recall Frosty making quite a production number out of this stripe and that. I fancy my (one and only) Mercer shirt is a butcher stripe. I could well be mistaken.
It's a grey university stripe for anyone left reading this in 10 years time.
Ah. Thanks, Tim. Of course, one is used to seeing John Simons routinely referred to as Mod/Skin/Ska/Oi/Merc/Oi Polloi/Suedehead etc. Even, on occasion, 'Ivy' or 'Ivy League'. In fact, I'm thinking of removing from my tired mind all notions of any such thing and telling myself that sometimes - more often than not - I wear American clothing (or 'American clothing') - as is the case now, with a Troy Guild button-down beneath a Russell Athletic sweatshirt and Levis. Tomorrow, though, I'm half expecting through the mail that John Molloy crew-neck (and the MJQs 'Lonely Woman')...
Take it for what it is, it's a nice enough shirt at a cheap enough price - if it were my size, I'd probably stick a bid on it. Surely most of the labels people put on things in an effort to flog them are irrelevant? I've said this before in a n other thread, if *you* like it and it fits within your budget/cannon/whatever then realistically that should be all that matters?
