I've been trying, once again, to 'wind down the wardrobe', to think - seriously - about creating a 'capsule wardrobe'. I've looked my clothing over and find much of it still to be decent Brooks Brothers. I've just picked up an English-made laid-back lambswool sweater of theirs.
I always found Ian Strachan's devotion to their shirts inspirational. I also found Jimmy's Jewish mentors touching (not quite the word I'm looking for perhaps) in their preferring Brooks to J.Press (with whom I fell in love at one time).
Shirtwise, today, at this very moment, I'm wearing Troy Guild. By no means as good.
One is obliged to do a great deal of trawling of course: business much as usual. So much of Brooks Brothers product seen online is bland and uninteresting, as if they've decided to follow the Ralph Lauren people down the same path. As for J.Press and Paul Stuart, well, draw your own conclusions. But weren't Press adamant some years ago that what they were selling had nothing to do with 'Ivy League'?
More shirts falling by the wayside: Bill's, Duck Head chambray. Following Gant, Arrow, B.D.Baggie.
But I regret having parted with a nice (if fraying) shirt from the Andover Shop, purchased around 2010.

Winding down the wardrobe whilst ebay trawling and buying? This is like one of those Soviet five year plans!

Without being too pedantic, actually originally by Lamont Dozier, 1977.
He of Holland-Dozier-Holland.
Played on Magic Soul radio daily. Also 'Im a native New Yorker' is on the playlist.
Woof's post about the Soviet Five Year Plan made me chuckle. I can see how it might look. But it works with books, CDs etc. too. One is constantly looking to slim down whilst simultaneously plumping up.
