Did my ears deceive me or, in the trailer to that grisly documentary, does Mr. Simons not mention something tasty in passing?
But what can it possibly mean? Kerouac riding around Soho on a Vespa? Close your eyes and think back... dream if you will...
Just enjoying Fordham's book on Ronnie Scott... I began immediately thinking of a young Johnny Simons looking around him, wishing, wondering and hoping...
Maybe an early mention of Cecil Gee played its part...
Oh, how I yearn for those original Russell Street pages, TRS... Your imagination really come into its own there... I wandered halfway round Tuscany searching for a book on Guttuso... Found one in the end...
Here's to the death of 'Mod' but the resurrection and celebration of 'Beat Mod'...
Is it not the look that John has gradually grown into?
The cap
The scarves
The bag (a few years ago)
The beard (ditto)
The interest in richer patterns and colours.
Talking of the trailer to that grisly, pop star-dominated, media-prick top-heavy film, wasn't Elms waffling away about the return of 'Mod'? I wasn't aware it had ever really gone away. It's clear from reading posts from Patrick Fields that he and his mates regarded them as just a silly bunch of kids by about 1967 (the time of 'Tiles' etc?). The 78 revival mob have now got to be at least pushing sixty, if not over. So what are the Wellerheads supposed to be? Only that? Nothing wider or deeper? But let's say Elms was not talking out of his arse, who'd make and supply the clothing? What form would it take? What kind of music might sustain any 'scene'?
And what does any of it have to do with John Simons other than inside a PR mans head?
