I've never seen this film:

But did they wear Donkey Jackets in the film & not PeaCoats/Reefer Jackets?
Donkey Jackets just don't seem NYC to me.

Interestingly reading Paul Gorman in conversation with KR, KR didn't care for the film much & couldn't understand a word of the dialogue.
KR says the holdalls came from 'The Fugitive' & the watch caps were a general street style of the time.
Probably it was the media who dubbed it the NYC stevedore 'Mean Streets' look.
Another myth busted!
