Re: Dos and Don'ts of Cufflinks

What do you think of toggel back or clip back cufflinks?

Re: Dos and Don'ts of Cufflinks

Some very nice faux Japanese links will be available at the Flatulence event. Prices start at $2500.  The artisan in question is a retired cardiologist - that should inflate their intrinsic worth by at least 1%.

Back with a vengeance.

Re: Dos and Don'ts of Cufflinks

I've discovered an antiques mall in Omotesando, Tokyo with a shop that has a very nice stock of vintage cufflinks, including some karat gold pieces. It also has several exquisite vintage sterling silver hip flasks, including a glass one with an openwork sterling overlay in a Beaux Arts floral pattern. I plan to drop serious coin at this shop in the near future.

Re: Dos and Don'ts of Cufflinks

I rarely spend a lot of money on cufflinks. What is the intended effect anyway? I just need a little glint under the sleeve and for $150-200 you can get a pair of enamelled ovals. How much does everyone here spend. What is the most you ever spent on a set? I become dizzy when I think about someone spending $2,000-4,000 for links.

Re: Dos and Don'ts of Cufflinks

I recently saw some plain gold oval cufflinks that I liked. They come in 9K, 14K, and 18K versions. Although I do not like spending a lot on cufflinks, I thought for one pair of gold ones I could step myself up. Is there any reasons why 18K is better than 9K or 14K. Is there a richness or gaudiness vs cheap looking point to consider?

I was having trouble making my mind up and I thought some here would have opinions or experience on what the differences are.

A friend of mine recently asked what the difference was (with men's jewelry) between real gold and plated gold? Who would know? Maybe he has a point?
