Sexual partner swapping and only token nodding to the restrictions of marriage vows. William Norwich described the upper class jet set of the post-war period as being "try-sexual", i.e. "I'll try anyone once".

Re: Those hated upper class customs

In England the Upper class has far more in common with the Working class & vice versa. Especially a day at the races.

It's the status anxious Middle class who keep the whole class thing going.

^ I suspect only in America did a puritanical streak keep the 'upper class' more straight-laced than their European counterparts. But this was never my sphere, thank God.

^ I suspect that the American Upper class would be  Middle class by European standards... Only much, much richer!

Re: Those hated upper class customs

Another habit the uppers have that the middles hate is.

the propensity for producing Gingers.

this is something the UC and lowers have in common you see the British Aristocracy ( in which there is a great long streak of the Ginger gene) had a rather pleasant habbit of tupping the servants  as a consequence the redness ran through the generations and became widespread in the lower classes also.

It is said these genes can be traced back to the northern anglo saxons and danes before them hence the line of gingerness in the aristocracy run much further than the relativley modern (1066 Norman pretenders)

As a consequence the Middleclass detest anything Ginger - but do not Know why

Ginger pubes however can be off putting whilst swimming naked in public.

We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true.

Re: Those hated upper class customs

Being me, I'm more interested in why the picture was taken than the picture itself.

He had someone else take it of him (what did they think of that request?)

It's a picture designed to tell a story, well thought out by the author - But why?

What was the motivation or interior need?
