I still sometimes wear one, esp. with DB suits and blazers. J. Press still carries them, along with sock garters. Keep the faith.

I think the tie clip will be back.

I wouldn't bet the same on sock garters, tho' I've nothing against them.

Re: Death of the Tie Clasp

My wife bought me a kitschy one with a thistle on it a few years back when she was in Scotland. I never wear it, though. I suppose it could come in handy in certain circumstances when you were wearing shirt/tie, but no vest or jacket.

Not a good look to me. Too fussy.

Re: Death of the Tie Clasp

They aren't a terrible look but if you wear wider ties like I do, then they wont fit across the tie. I also dont like the way they indent or crease a necktie.  And, if you wear them at a slant, be prepared to have people tell you it's falling off all daylong. Actually, considering a lot of women actually reach out and rearranged mine when I used to wear them regularly, it may not be a bad ploy.  Doing my British thing recently means leaving my ties free, which has its own pleasures.

I thought they dropped from favor circa 1960. I wore them back in the '50s. Even by the mid-60s, they struck me as pretty dorky.

(Yeah, I know, Fred Astaire liked 'em, but, then, Fred is dead!)
