I enjoyed his performance, though a few of the younger people at our Super Bowl party were cracking bad on him.

Tom Petty has always been one of my favorite musicians. Great halftime show.
We've heard that a million monkeys at a million keyboards could produce the complete works of Shakespeare; now, thanks to the Internet, we know that is not true.

What did he and the lead guitarist have around their necks? They did not look like ties -- were they some sort of skinny scarves?

For a real musical treat, have a listen to "The Traveling Wilburys Vol 1", produced in the 80's during Petty's brief solo career. The band was comprised of some of the greatest names in music, including George Harrison, Bob Dylan, and Roy Orbison, who, sadly, died shortly afterwards.
