Website for Fermo Fossati, parent company of Riva fabrics, perhaps the most exclusive shirting manufacturer in the world, with some interesting details of the old-world artisanal production techniques, using antique silk looms to produce the unique, silk-like texture of their cotton fabric. To place things in context of the size and scope of Riva fabric, the factory of S.I.C. Tess, another very fine shirting manufacturer, is approx. 15x the size of the entire Riva building. There is a small arrow embedded in the lower right-hand of each page to go forward...

They are also very friendly people to work with.
I hear they are very discriminating in distribution.

Marc,
I like subtle - beautiful pattern.
Noina and I (before kids) went to Lyon to look at the old silk looms and one very cold rainy day we sat for a while in a beautiful old church above the city nit far from the old Roman ruins. The ceiling had a repeating pattern that reminded me of your cotton.
Some Carlo Riva info:
I just heard back from Carlo Riva and they do not use Sea Island cotton. They use the top grade ginza cotton from Egypt. Which is grown in very small amounts.
Actually the Sea Island crop was wiped out a long time ago and there is controversy as to whether or not any true Sea Island cotton exists today.
But that is a very interesting topic for another day.
^ That's right, and the Giza cotton is spun in Switzerland. All of the top-of-the-line fabrics from Italian mills are weaved using cotton yarn from the same Swiss spinner.

I have the 2008 Carlo Riva swatches now and they are very beautiful mostly 180s.
I shall order for pocket squares and am considering some summer ties.
Any thoughts on the wrinkle factor for ties?
