Chelsea Boots?

I kinda want to find a pair of classic black Chelsea boots, but I'm not sure what details to look for.  And I can't spend much.

as a jumping off point, are these just horrible?  They seem okay to me, but I'm out of my element here.

Re: Chelsea Boots?

Why don't you purchase a pair of R.M.Williams chelsea boots. Very comfy and well worth the asking price. Nothing more need be said.

Re: Chelsea Boots?

They're not horrible style-wise, but they could do horrible things to your feet.  Shoes are the only parts of a wardrobe that, if poorly made, have the potential to cause actual physical damage.  Cut corners elsewhere but it would serve you well to invest in a quality pair of shoes, Chelsea boots or whatever.  Try to find any one of these at a discount...

Re: Chelsea Boots?

^ I meant the Banana Republic ones are horrible. I like Chelsea boots generally. Only good with slim pants, though (not for Trads!).

Re: Chelsea Boots?

Thanks, guys.  After looking more closely at the BR boots, I see they leave a lot to be desired.

I'm not shoe-centric at all, so I really appreciate the advice.

Brownshoe:

Perhaps the best approach is probably to go visit riding/equestrian shops, as they will sell these things. They are very common as riding boots (for people who don't wish to pay for tall boots). Prices should be fine, although you won't get Alden or Crockett quality of refinement. But designs should be classic, modest, and sleek.

I hope you live in a larger city or in the country someplace without industrial farming dominating the landscape.

Some of these places will offer MTM boots as well.

Get out your telephone book.

Re: Chelsea Boots?

A whole plethora of boots here...

I've been reliably informed that they are of good quality.

Re: Chelsea Boots?

Chums,

I'd like a pair myself.  There was a good RM Williams thread on SF long ago.
I liked some of the Blundstone shoos from Oz, but don't know of their quality.

I also like these Trickers:

Though maybe they could be charged with not only not being an ol' chelsea, but being a bit ungainly.

Re: Chelsea Boots?

Shooey, what's the latest word on RM William's? Have they made any changes, are they still decent boots?

Re: Chelsea Boots?

I had one pair of Chelsea boots in the early 90's, never again. They almost crippled me.

Re: Chelsea Boots?

I have a couple of pair but I need to get something a bit more custom grade at some point. These can be awesome with a suit or a pair of jeans.

Re: Chelsea Boots?

Chelsea boots are a standard for me with a suit in the evening. As was commented earlier they look particularly sleek and also work well if you are dressing down a suit. I have the EG Chelsea boot on the 82 last in black.
