If you are going to be wearing a white Shirt, then you will that there are certain things that you should do.
One of the main things is to pick a couple of accessories that are colored so as to complement and not to clash or over power your outfit.
The best way to do this is to stick to some other neutral colors that will help to achieve this goal for you.
The good colors for this sort of thing are something like tortoiseshell or bronze, and indeed you will often see people wearing these colours with white as a result.

There are few things more attractive on a dude, IMHO, than a dark grey suit and a white shirt. I always strive to draw people's attention away from my clothes and toward my face, or what I'm doing, or what I'm saying. Clothes are like movie scores--they should unconsciously enhance the mood. If people are aware of it, the composer did something wrong.
This is the major, major disagreement I have with pretty much all the internet men's clothing forums. If people are saying "Your clothes look great" rather than "YOU look great," you're doing something wrong.
Brown shoes don't make it.
