Black suede pumps, if fine enough, they work.
And Im intrigued by some of the brighter colored suede slippers E Green has offered in catalogs. I havent found a use for them yet but theyre too pretty to let get away easily.
As for monograms and designs on velvet slippers, Id put some whimsey in there, like jeeves on one foot and wooster on the other, or a lions head or something. I saw fred merkin had a pair with krazy kat on one foot and ignatz mouse on the other.
Silk socks can be in colors other than black if they pick up a color above the waist (maroon cummerbund, maroon silk socks), generally keeping to the darker side of the color.
burgundy
bottle green
midnight blue
royal purple
Though Id avoid a shade of grey to go with silver above the waist and stick with black.
I wear patent oxfords, I happen to like them.
Pumps in croc or lizard, the croc Id love to have a pair of.
a patent monk strap (simple one strap) and a patent smooth, undecorated ankle boot can also work, though admittedly youd have to choose the style very carefully.
Ive seen an oxford made out of grosgrain silk, thought that was interesting. Havent quite decided where it would fit into all this yet.
