Thanks for the link to those 'sucker Ginghams. I do like the yellow, though my preference is for long sleeves. Short sleeved bd's need to be trim fitting, IMO.

another gingham person here. i like my gingham in 'classic', bold colours, red, navy, dark navy, black although i'm with mr. fnb that black gingham is a bit tricky. i have a rather nice big check black one which i very seldom wear as i find problematic to combine it with any clothing really be it smart or casual. i tend to like the check size rather big and more single than multicoloured. when going multicolour in a loud way i'm very much into plaid / madras check and when in a subtle way i'm into subtly coloured tattersall or the like. in general i wear checked shirts much more often than striped, not to mention plain.

currently wearing a rather nice choc brown ss bennie one, my faves being a red big-ish check ss bennie and navy middle size check ls massimo dutti one. all of these except a pale blue micro gingham brooks bros one are button down (as are most of my shirts anyway). for some reason i wear the small check non-bd one very seldom, quite not comfy with the colour i think.

as for colours, i'd like to get more adventurous (in gingham that is), expanding from classic-coloured ones to, say, in the pink / yellow etc direction. not too brave to venture into the multi-colour gingham realm though.

With my background gingham is never a problem, still got an old Ben Sherman one somewhere in red and white.

Some of the people I used to know would never get the mickey taken out of them if they wore gingham. Mainly because they were wearing heavy brogues and braces too.

BTT...

Has anyone seen a dress shirt (spread collar, maybe french cuffs) in gingham?  I'm wondering if it would work.

Yesterday, on the way back from picking up my navy small gingham BD, I saw a display with a large scale yellow gingham with spread white contrasting collar...  Not for the faint of hear, but pretty nice actually.

Wearing the aforementioned navy gingham BD right now, with a black knit tie, tan slacks, and + or - Norvegian bluchers in very dark brown.  Feeling very Ivy here in Paris.  (Oh, burgundy v-neck too, but it's off right now.  Too hot today.)

Gingham shirts are very versatile and popular. They can be worn with blazers, cord suits and tweed jackets. Several well-known high street brands are offering them now.

John Lewis has English-made gingham shirts at £65 in my local store. They have double cuffs, MOP buttons and a spread collar. Gingham appears to be in fashion again.

I've always worn gingham shirts.  I remember back in the bad old days in the SMM fab shop at Birkenhead Docks someone taking the piss out of me when wearing a blue gingham shirt and said his missus had a bikini in the same fabric. 

Like Formby says, for those who are sussed it's eternally stylish.
