The name Arthur Gluck isn't discussed much, but in the day, you know you really arrived when you wore a Gluck shirt, who sold his shirtmaking business some years ago, although I can't vouch for the current owner. Gluck's client list read like a Who's Who and my only personal remembrance is that of seeing the singer Harry Belafonte being fitted by Mr. Gluck while accompanying a family member, as a child, who was a customer. Word had it that Gluck retired a wealthy man not directly from making shirts but from following the stock tips he received from clients on Wall Street and in the business world. Only in New York!
