I know this post is a confusing mix of ever think and what i was trying to do, have ever think from:
Music: that Soul look like that of Early Temptations or Modern Jazz
Films and Films starts: Michael Caine,New Wave films , Steve McQueen
Youth Culture (yes i know i keep going back to it): Mods,Soul boys/Girls, Skins,Soulies,Suedeheads,Smoothies and Casuals (One for Alex)
a place to talk about idea's of mixing thing up and trying to make some think new with the idea LOOKING FOREWORD BUT WITH ONE EYE ON THE PAST.
How do you get the best of all of this?
in the idea's of clothing is the such think as RETRO MODERN?
To help with my question i remember that Alex did an Artical for uppers and i hope he won't mind me putting it up (just let me know and I'll take it off) http://www.uppers.org/showArticle.asp?article=237
It also a place to post picture and have fun

"You scored 8 out of a possible 10
Waiting for Godard. True, you're no "auteur" but you're clued up enough to not be intimidated. While a drag on a Gauloise may have you coughing into your cappuccino, most people would probably take you for an expert."
Good fun. And good pics too Lewis.

Good thread Lewis and thanks for putting up the link. In case people wonder what I look like : check the contributors list on Uppers and click on my name. The pic is obviously a few years old, I'd just gone back to sporting a crop and the barnet is a bit longer now ( shortish college boy ) but apart from that it's basically a look I sometimes still use, probably in another variation, but anyhow...... modern classic would be a good term to describe it also...
cheers,
Alex
P.S. Clobber worn in the pic to create a bit of an updated Suedehead Look : Dico dressy trainers in burgundy, grey Burlington socks ( probably ), pewter M&S 'Italian' slacks, a matching belt ( obviously ), white ( with black trimming ) 3 button Stone Island polo topped off by a burgundy Burberry Harrington.

A very timely thread, Lewis - Nice one!
All of this seems to be very much of the moment right now - Mr. McQueen especially.
This stuff has been underground & cultish for so long that this sudden bubbling up into the mainstream is very interesting. It's a bit like the knit tie's renaissance on the American clothing MBs... Why now?
I'd like to think that the faux-gentlemanly pose on the Internet has now bored everybody to death to such an extent that something with a little bit more grit is now of interest. But who knows?
J.
thank Russell_street and too everone who add to this thread.
I'm not sure where i'm going with this and it seem to be a very confussed mixed but i think i wanted to put ever think i loved into one post.
a melting pot with out any direction so i might need some help on this one.
FIRST FILM STARS
maybe take it one step at a time so too start off here a question that been buring me for ages.
is the any film stars today that look good withotu trying?
I'm hoping by the end of this i will have some direction

loved it all suited and booted, never seen that Bolan picture before.
Was it from TOWN magazine.
dempsey.
I think the TOWN magazine stuff is completely reprinted in the Terry Rawlings book (Mod. A very British phenomenon). I do not remember that picture...
I do not remember mods even 'cautious' ones wearing British Warm overcoats, as suggested by soulbowl.co.uk. above.
I like British Warms, but they are more 'Colonel Blimp' and 'Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells' than 'Mod'.
^ That's a great resource.
sorry I've been busy so i haven't had any time to replay.
I think the picture from TOWN was one that never used and I'll have a scout around to see if i can find more.
