new years eve casual dinner party tonight:
navy gabs
brooks white ocbd
navy wool sweatervest
new brooks flannel blazer
navy/green/yellow argyles
black bass weejuns
Last Sunday - drove my daughter to the station for her return to London.
BB red plaid flannel bd shirt This season`s pattern; Christmas present.
White M & S t-shirt.
501s, no belt.
Blue socks.
AE burgundy penny loafers.
LLB warmup jacket, red with blue fleece lining.
Tuesday - walk in the local NT park looking for Hawfinches.
Down jacket.
Paul Smith merino wool crewneck, lilac, over t-shirt.
Rohan fleece-lined trousers, utterly unhip but very warm
Rohan beanie. Ditto.
Timberland nubuck boots. 20 years old but still original laces and soles. If the current offerings are still of this quality they`re a good investment.
New Year`s Eve - in to neighbours for supper, drinks and NY Day headache.
LLB s/s pink on white uni. stripe ocbd.
Anderson shetland. Eesit or, in English, fawn.
Charcoal merino wool trousers, cuffed, double pleats. M&S (!)
BB argyle socks, grey/fawn/dark blue.
Alan McAfee tasselled wingtip loafers bought back in the days when I was flush. Originally brown but I`ve recently been using burgundy polish and they`re coming up a really nice colour.
Happy New Year.
Went out like this.
Blue Brooks Brothers slim fit ocbd.
Grey 1940s repro sweat by the Real McCoy.
Navy "single breasted pea coat" by Silas.
1947 501s.
Thick red Falke Walkie socks.
Big brown crepe soled brogues by Dinkelacker.
Went to a barber who's been at it for 45 years with a picture I printed of Steve McQueen, which made me feel embarrassed. I was nervous. It was my first visit. I've been cutting my own hair for the last 10 years, with mixed reviews.
He studied the picture and nailed it in one go. 12 minutes, 18 euros.
I'm well smug now. In my mind's eye I look like the love child of Audrey Hepburn and Dr Spock.
Happy new year folks.

A lovely beige (!) Johnstons of Elgin cashmere poloneck jumper
Slim, dark blue USA made deadstock 501`s (blue hems turned up)
Brown George Cox suede chukka PB`s
Ideally i`d have worn the above with cream Wigwam crew socks (but i don`t have those).
If i was wearing a jacket i think it might have looked OK under an olive diamond quilted flight jacket from ArmyNavyDeals
http://www.armynavydeals.com/asp/products_details.asp?SKU=7160&ST=2&Diamond%20Quilted%20Flight%20Jacket
(but i dont currently own one of those , either).

sand suede Clarks desert boots, thick cotton socks (lovat green, Falke calls this shade 'mistletoe')
H&M raw denim 'Sliq' jeans, very dark brown brass buckled belt from Regent Belt Co.
blue/white striped Lands' End shirt, the kind with flap chest pocket the third button in the back of the collar (a good find these, with even more 'collar' than than the BB supima BDs). Marl-grey T underneath.
Bean Norwegian sweater in fancy navy/white/red pattern
unlined LE field jacket in 'vintage olive' (quite a trim, sports jacket-like fit)
thin grey skull-cap (H&M)
-5° here today and getting colder, so I need to leave off the warmest gear to feel the benefit when the cold snap comes
