I'm not sure he's correct that "all the original Brooks shirts" came with what we sometimes called fag tags, but wait to be corrected on that matter. There's a lot of problems like this in that august publication.
edit: I think I have one English-made formal shirt from the Brethren that has the tag.

I'm sorry, perhaps I am just not thrifty enough, but I would suspect that if I ever wore one pair of trousers enough to wear the crotch through, I might think about replacing my trousers, rather than try to rescue them.
