Christian's article is now up on the Ralph Lauren website and is a must-read for fans of all this I think.
I especially liked the pic of Miles looking very Ivy in '55.

Outstanding article, many thanks. We saw Roy Haynes at Tanglewood Mass a couple of years ago. Even though over 80, he still played with the energy and enthusiasm of one much younger.
Because of his emphasis on ballads, Sinatra sometimes isn't considered a part of the jazz scene. However, we saw a benefit on PBS this summer featuring a 1965 concert that he did. In those days, the guy was absolutely elegant. Much of the things that he wore were what we would consider Ivy, today.
Just picked up the second hand copy I ordered of "Blue Note-The Album Cover Art" and although it's slightly damaged it was worth the money I think. Not in the least because of the "No Room For Squares" essay by Graham Marsh which is very much in the same vein as Christian's article. Cheers, Jim...

A recommended book:

Great polaroid photos by Nica de Koeningswarter and three wishes from dozens and dozens of jazz musicians, compiled by Nica as well. Great layout too. The polaroids are a refreshing change to professional publicity photos that you often see in jazz books.

Kenny rocks the roll.
Top LP too.

A bit off the subject of ivy style, but if you are interested in great piano, you might check out Bill Charlap. Straight ahead jazz.
As RS says "music to be happy to".
His CD "Stardust" has Kenny Washington on drums, and Peter Washington on bass. But, I'm sure that you knew this.
