Not much of an equestrian, to say the least, but, to me, taking the fox and the hounds out it just seems to destroy all the pangeantry and tradition of fox hunting.

Doesn't this just become sort of a variant of a steeplechase?

Pretty much how fox hunting is now conducted in the UK since the government banned hunting with hounds-most hunts now a days send out an advance rider with a rag impregnated with scent for the riders and pack to follow.
