They'll be replacing a pair of cola Clarks. Well half and half with another pair of identical Cola Clarks. I'll be using them as work shoes and general knock about shoes. Bucks wouldn't really be an option.
Ahhh, I really should read things.
Interesting finds Ville, Top pair are less obvious in the playboy styling, would almost call them a crepe sole gibson/derby lovely shape to them and look like new.
The lower pair are much more in the Playboy style, and look almost the same as the George Cox in the detail and shape.
FYI I didn't bid on these, nor did I even see them.
I'd be gutted if I missed them in my size too Ville, vintage Playboys are at the very top of my list and those are really ace. Sorry you missed out... use a snipe service next time man!
Heartbreaking! Sorry to hear of your troubles Ville. That's really got to sting.
Just curious: are the vintage ones that diferent from new ones? I would imagine they could be very stiff - the crepe may also have deteriorated, right?
How are they diferent from the round toe playboys by sanders?
I'm asking cause I'm about to get some sanders next month - still not sure on the color or model but I'm curious about the differences
Not pop boys, GC are all leather lined, these are not. Also the crepe foxing is very different on the GC's, I know as my colleague wears them.
Replied to this thread yesterday, but it didn't upload, must of been a FNB timeout senario! Anyway, what I was going to say was the top pair look less playboy and more like a Debry style shoe with a heavy crepe sole, the playboy style is characterised by the high rubber welt, the second pair look a lot like a GC though, especially with the shape of the toe and the shoe quarter.
Both nice, what a shame to miss out Woolster.
Excellent info Tom.
Cheers.
In fact Liam, Looking again at the ones on ebay, they are not even crepe, just a moulded rubber.
Nice find. Is that a true representation of their colour,
Hi, this is my first post and i know this thread is a year old but I was looking for play boy shoes and found this thread again about a week ago.
It took me a week to read it and to my surprise my shoes were on page 30. I actually bought the french playboys a year ago.
When I got them, they were the perfect fit but the soles were solid. The shoes had been worn but looked almost new.
I took at them with a hairdrier and the soles eventually softened up. Since then i have worn them a lot. They are my favourite shoes. People comment on how cool and unusual they are all the time.
It`s funny because i found this thead and read the advise before i saw and bought the french shoes.
Hello oiw! I still think that's a beautiful pair of shoes and it is good to hear you're enjoying them. Glad the thread was of help to you.
Do you know anything about the brand? I tried to dig up some info then, but nothing much came up. Any chance of a fit pic?
I've enjoyed wearing my Alden Plantation crepes so far this summer - lightweight, yet smart enough to pass for gunboats in the office.
The only thing i could find out about the french shoes that interested me on the net was this:

If a woman was to wear these shoes, she could easily take me in a fight.
