Re: A Gentleman's London

Entertainingly ALL the details are wrong here!

Portman Square?
The Ritz?
New & Lingwood?
Wiltons? Well... Yes, but not in the way that he means. It's a very different crowd there.
Gieves & Hawkes?
Claridges' Bar Vs The Palm Court?
Fucking Selfridges!!!

I'm with Mr. FNB.

No Gentleman he, Mr. Kandell. Just another tiresome blogging Yank on a spree talking to other tiresome blogging Yanks to prop up their silly ideas.

An American East Coaster in London would have provided a better day out I fancy.   I wonder if that's fair... ?

Or just somebody, anybody, with taste.

Edit: Just noticed that the article is 2001. It's still completely wrong!

Edit II: And I hate that stupid comment about The Great Blunt at the end. Grrrrrrrr!

Re: A Gentleman's London

After a night on the tiles the cafe on the corner of Farringdon Rd and Charterhouse St does a great fried breakfast for carnivores, if it moves they'll fry it but then this in a meat market. As an added bonus the pubs around their open from 4 AM onward (by 7 AM you will find half a dozen open) because of the market workers.

Re: A Gentleman's London

The way I'm heading is to present a portrait dripping with snot to upset as many American fantasists as I can. When I'm done I must do something for blokes like us.

Re: A Gentleman's London

Given the recent free fall of the sterling pound, I'll be flying to London for a shopping spree in January. Can anyone suggest any must see places?

Real Gentlemanly style: Jacob's Cream Crackers.

Carr's Water Biscuits are for the aspiring.
Only a true Gentleman would have the innate good taste to offer his crackers round at the end of dinner.

How good are William and son? I'm interested in their cufflinks particularly.

Re: A Gentleman's London

I read as much.

Is their stuff worth the money though?  (I'm in 'Gentleman' mode still, forgive me)

Apreys was always an odd, bit-of-a-rip-off kind of place. And then there were those graspers Gerrard before they both chummed up together... Quality & expensive with it, but overly so?

Edit: I've polished this up since yesterday as I'm trying to flog the concept.
