Pragmatism is probably the most Gentlemanly trait - A Gentleman being a survivor above all else. This opens the door for that ruthless streak that they all have.
They are great games players, but not sportsmen - An important distinction.
What is often confused as them caring about other people's feelings is in fact nothing of the sort. They just know what to say & when to say it. And they will say whatever suits them at the time. What looks like good manners is really just good politics.
