T&A or R&H?

Good evening,

I will be in London in january and february. And I do need some new (bespoke/MTM) shirts. I right now circle around these two companies T&A and R&H. Any input is welcomed....
Does T&A use double-needle stitching?

Regards Cordoba

Re: T&A or R&H?

I assume that R&H is Russell & Hodge and have read mixed reports about that firm. I would check out Harvie & Hudson (Jermyn Street), Stephen Lachter (Norton & Sons in Savile Row), Robert Whittaker (Dege & Skinner in Savile Row) and Sean O'Flynn (Sackville Street who also makes for Huntsman and New & Lingwood) too.

Re: T&A or R&H?

I'd try Stephen Lachter if for no other reason than he made shirts for Cary Grant, which is pretty cool.  Mixed results with Turnbull, but, I don't think their customers generally buy T&A for the fit as much as for the brand and the heritage of Turnbull.  At certain select places in NYC, wearing a T&A shirt is your ticket to another form of "T&A"  Sean O'Flynn made a few shirts for me that were ok, nothing remarkable.  Might want to have Frank Rostron on your list, too, although I've never used him.  Have heard good things about Budd, but, that was years ago.

And, as always, avoid Hilditch & Key.

Re: T&A or R&H?

Bishop: thank you for your advice... I might be mistaken, but I am pretty sure Russell and Hodge does the bespoke shirts for Harvie and Hudson...
I don´t think I do have the time for visiting all of the makers you suggested, I will be accompanied by 20 pupils....

Marc: judging from their page Rostron seems like a nice option but i haven´t figured yet if they have a base in london....
regarding ildeeetch an key: I only have experience with their ready to wear shirts. I ordered two an and requested lenghtening of the sleeves... one was the length they stated it would be, the other one was shorter by about an inch. But because the sleeves were altered (by them!) they would not take the shirt back!!! I had my seamstress convert it from a double cuff shirt to a button cuff shirt.... the fabrics of the shirts are pretty crappy as well. I once ordered a couple of TM Lewin shirts in similar fabrics and they outperform the H&Ks in every way (the fabrics that is).
So no more H&K for me or as we say in german: Herr Grayson, da rennen Sie offene Türen bei mir ein!

Re: T&A or R&H?

Actually, having read the finer points of T&A shirts, below, why not simply buy their ready-made shirts and avoid the only area of complaint I'm aware of, dodgy fit from their bespoke services?

Re: T&A or R&H?

I have heard that Harvie & Hudson cut their bespoke shirts in Jermyn Street from your pattern. The shirts are then sewn and finished by Russell & Hodge.
