Black and blue work better in small dosages as in rather subtle details as opposed to such main points as a shirt and jacket.
For example navy blue shoes with a black suit. Or perhaps a tie or handkerchief could serve as a a suggestion of coordination sophistication.
I would probably like the buttons changed to say smoked pearl because with its conservative styling, it may look too much like a suit jacket otherwise. It would be great for the evening. Use a lighter shade of pants than you would ordinarily use, in the medium to light category, or even an "oatmeal" color, now that's Hip.
And the shirt and tie are fine, but also consider a sweater in the color of the tie, that "Hermes" orange.
Navy and black is tres sophistique. I especially like wearing a midnight blue suit or jacket with a black torso swathing underneath, either a dress shirt in cotton or silk, or a polo shirt in cotton or wool/cashmere, or a sweater (also either cotton or wool/cashmere). Black and navy work because it is a very taboo combo due to the influence of women on men's fashion. It is a way for men in the USA to re-take the wardrobe back from les femmes.
FNB,
Do you have any examples that you could share of the Navy / Black combo?
It's nice to find a place to discuss men's eveningwear, as there seems to be a different set of modern "hip rules" for the night.
Thanks again
Soph
