Though I have never set foot in the 21 Club, nor do I expect to, that still strikes me as sad--a concession to lean economic times and regnant scruffiness

As a young lad,, I once tried to luncheon at ol 21 whilst in the city for a seminar.  Imagine my surprise when gently told,, I am sorry sir,,but we require a coat and tie.  Was tchauncey indignant that his oxford and sweater did not pass muster?  No,, I was embarrassed that I did not know that a jacket was required for luncheon.

Have enjoyed several meals there since.  Should you go,, do tell them that I sent you.
