Nice bit of kit on John Updike (died today). A northeast and New England man of the middle class.

Magnum, founded in 1947, had a lot of strong members in the 40s/50s/60s. Worth exploring for the fun.

One of the great pleasures in life is to spend an afternoon in the Magnum offices.
Ah, Magnum. Reminds me of of Magnum PI, the ol' series. And the time I was hitchhiking through the Sanwich Islands, and Tom Selleck was driving around and he picked me up in his red Ferrari. I was drinking heavily then and I offered him a swig of rum. He tilted his head back, then the bottle back, and then he laughed. Like Errol Flynn laughed that time he drank from the goatskin bag in the scene in Robin Hood. I know because I saw the original outtakes. My cousin, Satchmo, from Chicago was the Director on that film. Had just come out east from Jersey where he was a bail bondsman. Had been breaking legs for several years. Needed to change careers. Financed a few films, but all he wanted to do was direct. Wild times. Saw Selleck years later at the super market. In the liquor aisle. Would waive to him. He had a nice blonde with him. He pretended not to notice me. Maybe it was my threatening glare. Anyway, he's lucky I didn't beat him up.
Ah Magnum, Reminds me of the time I saw Bobby Davro walking down Scarborough seafront eating one. He never spoke either.
