Great opera sends shivers down your spine. Sutherland, Popp and Tebaldi were all capable of doing this.

Just ordered some Kitty Wells and Jerry Lee Lewis. Anyone know of a good alternative version of 'Honky Tonk Angels'? Anyone know that great Country image from 'Rock Dreams'? Tough-looking guy, bruised-looking woman.
That is one of the most covered songs in Country music history. The original version was by Hank Snow I believe. (Wild side of Life) and Kitty Wells had the famous reply song. I have versions by Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings, Dolly Parton, Patsy Cline, and Loretta Lynn along with the Snow and Kitty Wells versions. Oh and for you rip.

Edit: Hank Thompson not Hank Snow.

Many thanks, SS. Enjoyed those very much.
Reminds me that I heard the Rod Stewart version circa 1970.
Nat King Cole-Besame Mucho.
Cool as you like.

I saw the Steve Fishwick/Osian Roberts quintet at Peterborough Jazz Club last year-great, authentic Bop sound.

I'd recommend seeing them if you get an opportunity-here's their 'How High The Moon' at The Crypt, Camberwell-not been myself, but definitely on my list.

^Now that was my kinda' of vibe!
Been digging a lot of latin jazz the last week or so, including Dizzy's 'Manteca' suite arranged by Chico O'Farril, here's a present day version, not as good as the 1954 arrangement, but still beaming hot:

My favorite Jazz Bossa Nova track, Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd - One Note Samba - Just wait for that Sax to drop in and the guitar solo is just as brilliant. With echos of Django, but then with a bluesy twist too, this track has it all for me

Not often 'Socialist Worker' gets quoted on here. Anyway, it is Thursday and it is always handy to check what strikes are in the offing.

I saw Laurel Aitken in the Railway Hotel, Wealdstone of 'Who' fame. I did not know he lived in Leceister. Working away, I once went on a guided walk around Leicester. It was very big in the days of hosiery - before men started wearing proper trahseez.
Laurel was the first I ever heard doing Rastafarian stuff:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrBkc2L1gk4
