I wanna ride in
The car Hank died in
I wanna stretch out in the back of that big ole Cadillac
Ride that shiny car to every honky-tonk and bar
After seeing some of 4fhepcats recent comments about 60s rock music being "nursury rhymes" consisting of two chords, I would like to play these two tracks from The Allman Brothers 1970 " Live At The Fillmore East" album to refute his statements. All I ask hepcat, is that you listen with an open mind.
The first is their version of T bone Walkers "Stormy Monday". I have made mention in the past that some of the British rock bands like John Mayalls Blues Breakers, Clapton, even Led Zeppelin and to a lesser extent the Stones led me to explore and learn about the originaters of the blues. But i think this version stands on it's own as great blues. http://youtu.be/1gDhR1R3S0s
The second is an original composition by one of the bands two guitarists, Dickie Betts, called "In Memory Of Elizebeth Reed". The other guitarist, Duane Allmans playing on this recording has been compared to John Coltrane and he said in interviews that he was inspired by "Kind Of Blue". The music critic and writer Robert Palmer said about this performance "that if the musicians hadn't quite scaled Coltrane like heights they had come as close as any rock band was likely to get." http://youtu.be/8UwkBmDMfR4
