Shoe reheeling

Does anybody with leather soles with rubber inserts get just the rubber insert replaced; or does the whole top layer get replaced with rubber ?

Cobbler never asks me. I just get a rubber layer for the repair.

It did occur to me more fussy individuals may want just the insert replaced. I assume the cobbler would then need to cut a piece of rubber to shape.

Re: Shoe reheeling

Never heard of the brass nails thing before, but you are precisely the type of customer I had in mind when I posted the question.

If there were pre-cut rubber patchs I could imagine London shoe repairers doing the job; but not if there was any more involved.

I am not that bothered. I have applied Woolworths rubber soles over leather soles myself. I can justify it on the Asian idea that it is insulting for others to see the soles of your feet.

I would imagine Leatherman on AAAC could give me chapter and verse on options available if you seek them out. I might ask there as well.

The Australian factor is interesting. The climate is such that you could wander around in shorts and T shirts most of the time. So good leather shoes may not be of interest to enough of your fellow citizens to provide the sort of service you seek. Sator probably even more so.
