Re: Tied to the job

Odysseus had himself tied to the mast so as to hear the siren's song.Cordage is one of mankind's oldest inventions. We used  it to secure our place in the world. It wove baskets to hold material values that led to buildings to hold us. People who would undo ties would unravel more than they bargain. If they cannot accept a tie, at least  hand out  wax to the crew to ignore their screams when drowning.

Ties can be so beautiful and elegant (when well chosen, of course) that I simply cannot comprehend the animus displayed against them in many quarters. I think most of it must stem from dullards who buy their shirts with too-small collars!

Re: Tied to the job

I have really come to enjoy ties in the last few years.. I think my favorite are without a doubt, Borrelli, but I also like my Isaia, Kiton, RLPL, and interestingly, Brooks Brothers ties as well.  Menswear, at least business wear, is relatively "drab" by nature, so the shirt, tie and square are really the only ways to express one's self..

Re: Tied to the job

The fun in ties is finding those that speak back to you. There are a few classic standards that say ' I am better than any key for getting you past a door.' The classic, navy and pindot business tie comes to mind.

I am on the beginning of a black tie collection: No ,not bowtie for a tux, but four in hands that will NEVER see either a black suit or any formalwear.
I have an Italian faille, altruistic buy for my old church when I found myself helping at far to many funerals and courier to other churches.

It is counterpoint to my pocketsquares, and I hope to add a grenadine, poplin and thai version.

It can be addicting. I somehow understand philatelic colllectors now; hoping to fill a colour pallet, textures and weavings, classic patterns and what some dashing actor, public figure or literary description engaged my fancy.

Re: Tied to the job

Perhaps the best argument for the tie is that women love them.  The desire to dumb our dress down may be a sign of human devolution.  The movie Idicocracy illustrates things to come.

Re: Tied to the job

Its not exactly true that a job ties you. Its only that you think in that way.I love to be tied to things they have always proved good for me. I like it and every person has a different point of view.

I like to study ties color before and quite care whether I wear the best match
