Outre or Whimsical?

I was admiring my new Trafalgar braces today. My visiting nephew took one look and said 'Peacocks?'

Explanations failed, even the comparison to german pistol makers who polished the interior, non working surfaces.

I explained braces were at best 'flashed' like a hint of decoletege.'So why have them?' I hope he meant peacocks.

Now I am insecure about some planned future purchases. I literally sold my one Hermes tie off my neck to a
collector. I know some people find them outre. I stashed the funds in my romanian bible. People in my circle see that black book with gold cross and recoil faster than Dracula.

I was planning to buy a Sam Hober tie in maroon with ducks on it for 'country wear.' I like ducks, enjoy a mated
pair who spend more time in the swimming pool than I do. I don't care for the New England belts with whales.

Yet Kent Wang has a red and  yellowgold pocketsqure with dragons. Most of me says outre, the hintergedanke of my brain, resting on the reptilian portion says
Sechuan restaurant on chinese new years or waving it passing the Chinese Consulate car with my FREEE TIBET sticker.
