They supposedly clothed Miles Davis and Anthony Perkins in their 'golden' era: something I only half believe, I suppose. But that 'European' slant has been noted elsewhere and certainly the cords I had were Made In Italy rather than the USA. The cashmere v-neck I think was Scottish.
When I first read about the Ivy stores in New York City they talked about 'the Holy Trinity', no not Kendall, Harvey and Ball (Up the Toffees!), but Brooks, Press and Paul Stuart. I've never gone in - looks a bit plush and unfriendly and the stuff in their window displays did nothing for me. I think John Tinseth (The Trad), an anti-Chensvold ally, did some work promoting them. There's a vid on You Tube.
I keep going back to Brooks - hoping not to be disappointed. Press no longer really attract my attention, except on the level of Paul Stuart and the Andover Shop. Odd, but I've gone back to Ralph Lauren - not in a huge way (and it must be USA-made) but because bits and pieces can be picked up in England, thus avoiding shipping/customs. Odd decent items of Brooks are also to be found here - Woof pointed me in the direction of a pretty good seller.
The 'Holy Trinity' - yes - I remember Howard K and Alan Ball from my strictly non-partisan youth (pre-1971). Parents evening, circa 1968: 'If your son spent as much time on his multiplication tables as his football, he'd...' etc. etc. Always awkward when we stayed with relatives who were Forest supporters, though...
