I do not accept the existence of "subtle" indicators of class and power. I am willing to accept that such things existed in the past, under socially rigid societies, but not today. It's one of those intellectual mistakes that the iGents fall for every time.

I tend to dress plainly for work, but then I like to think that has its own purpose -- a subtle form of manipulation, perhaps. For social stuff I am getting more comfortable with a less plain approach, but it's incremental and I definitely want to avoid the "look at me" piling-on of notable pieces. It's an evolution of sorts, and a slow one, but I think somehow age seems to forgive more eccentricities.
