I've been beaten to it.
On my way homw today i was thinking of the new breed, the one that will keep the touch alight and after my week.
after speaking to my Mate Ian over a few pints about the staute of the Scene today and he was saying how it seems no one is having fun with it any more.
on Thursady night at a local soul night called Funked out and Soul out i was chatting to a bloke who was saying that it was good to see so many young people into it (funny but he said it as if i wasn't young ;(
I don't belive the such thing as a Pure Ivy and like the scene is some times see thought roses tinted glasses,
now watch as i'm going to get slated but maybe just maybe from what i've seen it look like the only way that Ivy will ever live on in any form is wated down.
people will always try and take bit of the look and change it (FACT) and if you want it to go on but sorry maybe it the only way.
I could be wrong, were just have to wait and find out
Lewis
Wise words - And maybe it's always been that way too?
98% of the market is Ivy infuenced or 'watered down' Ivy as you put it, and only 2% 'purist'?
Something like that.
Most people just buy some shoes or a shirt to mix in with their other stuff and I'd guess that that was always the case over here. 'Purist' guys exist, but not many.
'Preppy' is very popular in the States even now - A very watered down style. Maybe those are the styles that do best? The rather bland ones.
Probably all tailoring styles are like this - Classic English style is probably 98% any-old-suit-from-the-high-street and only 2% Savile Row. Maybe.
A purer style is worked at and worked into; it takes time, thought and effort, and the summit is never truly conquered.
^^^^
I know what your trying to do and you know how i feel about this.
i think this is some kind of wind up
but i agree with the last bit of your post and that all i agree with
^^I wasn,t having a pop at him personally, just making a comment on the normal standards from the people who sport those styles.
I've got yer back, mate!
Not that CH was really gunning for you I don't think.
So who are the New Breed?
Well he's older than me but Alex Roest has to be one of our most progressive Ivy fans and that's how I see what you're talking about - The evolution of the style.
"Pure Ivy"? - That's a tough one as the style never stood still for very long & cartoon Ivy is an easy trap to fall into. That way lies Trad, IMO.
To be honest I'm lazy & I've opted out. I hide behind calling my stuff 'Timeless Classics'. It's a cop-out.
^^As I said before, no having a go at you Lewis.
I fully understand you have not seen pure ivy when you are out and about at nights like your funked Out Soul Night.
The main reason for this is that it is generally sported by gentlemen of a certain age who are very unlikely to turn up at an event like that.
If you're really interested, you are more likely to spot one or two when Mose plays the Pizza Express next month.
Love and peace, CH

^ Tosh!
Preppy is lightweight stuff. Ivy requires no thought beyond good taste & being well informed of what's what.
... i've missed you, mikey...
Russell may be weary.
Them English, they do get weary
Wearing that same old Ivy dress.
But when you get weary, try a little preppyness.
You know you’re waiting, just anticipating
The style you’ll never, never, never possess.
While you’re there waiting without it,
Try a little preppyness.
It's' all you gotta do. This is for you.
It's not Boom Ivy Style, no, no, no.
You have your sack suits there.
But lobster pants and pink polos, yeah
Boat shoes are easier, easier to wear.
You won't regret it, no, no.
Them English, they just don’t get it.
Ivy is their only happiness.
But it's all so easy,
All you gotta do is try a little preppyness.
Go sockless, pop your collar, patch madras.
You got to, you got to, you got to try a little preppyness.
