We should answer the OP's original question maybe - Is it ballsy to reshoot Take Ivy?
And who had ever heard of it before Tony Ventresca over here in the West? Not many I'm sure.
This has cropped up before hasn't it, the lack of co-ordination in the clothing? I think ISR was with you on this one too, Alex. Let's see what he says later...
I'm actually happy to see that some people have found something positive in the whole thing. I really thought this thread would turn into a big hate on. Anyway, for those who held back thinking I've something personally invested, don't worry. I generally don't think too hard about linking things here. If I see something and I can think of one or two guys who will be interested, then I'll post it.
My own two bits. First, I agree that those guys have to kick their journalism standards up a few notches. The Take Ivy re-shoot copy was poor and I think that if you really pushed the author, he probably isn't actually upset that Tintin posted the pics. In fact, I would be surprised if the author even has a copy. Isn't there only like four people actually with legit copies in North America? Isn't every other copy currently in some mint poly-bag clutched by some greedo who thinks that b/c he lists it for $4k, it will in fact sell for $4k?
As for the photo-shoot itself, I didn't think it was that bad. The effort that is perceived missing in the writing is certainly not missing in the photography. Great pics.
Also, I dig on the enthusiasm, which as others have pointed out, could try a little harder to explain itself. It's worth noting that there aren't too many magazines / websites out there doing interviews with companies like Red Wing and Gitman Bros. and I think they deserve props for that. I also have a lot of respect for their efforts in working with Gitman on a custom shirt. That stuff's inspiring.
A quick thought on the hatin' too. We probably shouldn't be too quick to totally lambast guys who like the stuff and want to write about it (even if they are Johnny-come-latelys). Skepticism is healthy and pretension should be attacked. However, I figure that anyone who reads our site regularly would be demotivated from ever writing anything beyond pithy posts. Who wants to spend their free time writing about this stuff only to get exposed to a whole lot of hateful internet bile? For this reason I give a lot respect to guys like Tintin, Tucker, The Look et al for doing their own blogs.
Anyway, that's my two bits (and I do think it's ballsy to reshoot Take Ivy).
