I turned Chensvold on to this great pic (I got it from the 'Joe College' chapter in the rather jolly book 'Jocks & Nerd's) which he messed up on his 'Ivy' blog a while back. The original is from 'M Magazine' or somesuch - Too lazy to check...

Does it do it for you?
How would you tweek/tweak (sp?) it to make it your own?
It's Stevie Wilde in NYC in '84.

The coat is not unlike an ancient Don Richards of mine. I've always been convinced it doesn't look quite right without, say, a Rooster black knitted tie. Down below, there's a slight touch of Chet Baker. I can imagine Kevin Rowland kitted out like this, but only in an American setting. I'd ditch the hose and footwear, do something with the hair, maybe put on some tortoiseshell frames I once saw a picture of Robert Walker wearing around the time of 'Strangers On A Train'.
The guy in the photo is just about 'me' - stylistically speaking, circa 1984 in my first year in Art College. Hair included.

... Thoughts?
Count the 'Chens', surely?
One. Must. Entertain.
The picture is a send-up anyway. 'Armless fun.
No, that's fine, adam! Stuff like this is just for entertainment really and being petty & rude is all a part of that with a fine old tradition. The banter we indulge in here is indeed nothing to the kind to be found elsewhere, although I did once try to get The King Of Banter, Lord Dunsby, to come across here to liven things up (he was too busy tho'.).

just a random statement but i feel that an Ivy League look is far too subtle for some mods to get . I once read a clothing article in a mod fanzine describing various clothing outlets and places to buy mod stuff and using the term (i'm paraphrasing) if you want to dress like an old man go to J.Simon
