Re: All the News that Fits

Ivy League of Gentlemen. No one is dissing Modculture. I am not saying that one style is superior to another, that would be silly. All I am saying is Mod as I understand it, is for young people, as is Punk.
You get to a certain time in your life and you realise you cannot cling on to the fashions of your youth. The general styles spoken of on this forum are the ideal way to progress away from "The stricter Mod style" as Alex puts it.
I have older Mod friends who still look fantastic in hipsters and regency paisley, but for every 'face' that pulls it off, there are ten who really don't and would do better to buy themselves a nice suit.
Forty-something mods to me are like white rastas or upper class punk rockers. It just doesn't work. Modernist, yes. Mod, no.

Re: All the News that Fits

If there was any dissing of modculture going on I'd be one of the first defending it being as I've been a member on there for more years than I care to mention  ... But there isn't and won't be . I do however feel that sartorially some mods and skins for that matter need to grow up

Re: All the News that Fits

We seem to go round in circles on this one don't we. Can't help thinking we've been here before. But just to add my pennie's worth. My heart always sinks a little when I see "older" mods who try too hard.....and I think thats the key, to be seen like you aren't trying too hard and you can probably pull it off.

In fact, I too have seen older mods who work well, its about adapting to our age and shape etc. Actually come to think of it, maybe its the older more "dandified" mods that we think of here as bad examples and not the "classic" suited booted "smart" mod (although 40+ men in shiny suits are not to be included here) Or the crappy "Weller" rip off mods.

Along with ILOG, I too don't believe Ivy is sartorially superior. For me its a softer look that I like and feel works. But I still like to wear a bespoke suit from time to time.

Mod, modernist? It really comes down to definitions and how you interpret them.

On a side note, but a good example of why Mod is often maligned. I was out the other week, and saw a guy not a lot younger than me, I'd say around 43ish. He had a balding Marriot/Weller hairstyle, contemporary suit that he'd had shortend to no break (a pretty crap suit I have to say) and black and white "Jam" shoes and a black and white tie......I thought I was back in 79 again. Really does give mod a bad name! And much to my shame I did feel sartorially superior in my Brooks OCBD, straight brown/ (subtle) blue window pane check strides and crepe soled suede slip-on shoes. I also caught him looking at me as I was looking at him. He was probably thinking what a twat I looked as well....... smile

Re: All the News that Fits

I think there is a healthy, broad church of topics discussed here. Perhaps not as much filth as one would like, but...  Hey ho!
Uncle Jim, can you fix it so we we have more rabid lezbo nazi bongo mondo zombie beat action on this forum please?
Thanks

Re: All the News that Fits

I would like to feel the was healthy, broad church of topics discussed but the are restriction and maybe this is the reason for the drop in topics.

The new breed are few and far between but as long as there a few keeping it alive i'm all for that.
the sad thing is i think the an age to be called the new breed and i think i'm just past it wink

Differnt looks work for differnt people, look up and learn from older people but still so your own thing
