Kingy, it was worse - At first they punched me in my little white face. Then they told me I didn't belong.
I felt Malinda-d.
Love all this stuff.
Love it.
This is a great thread indeed, GG's comments are very strong...

Thanks.
I still find Rowland an unreliable witness. What school does he claim to have gone to?
Not many black kids in Catholic schools in Harrow/NW London in 1969 - fact. Not even many Asian kids...
^ True. You used to wonder what the English kids were doing there. Every year usually had a couple of Poles, an Italian, a Spaniard, maybe someone with French parents. Indian kids would be called 'Gary' or 'Martin'.
It was like Paul Burke's 'Untorn Tickets' - except a decade earlier. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Untorn-Tickets-Paul-Burke/dp/0340793473
As I consider myself in the Mick group, I hope no one takes offence
These are the terms me and my mates referred to ourselves in.
Not very PC but no malice meant.I had a pint of porter in Cohans in Kong a couple of days ago Kingy!
You mean Cong?
Very nice 'Quiet Man' museum there .
I could ask Kev. Dunno if I want to.

He IS passionate about style. Last we spoke he said he doubted he'd wear Ivy again but he still loves the look.
I won't be rude to Mr, Kingstonian, our resident ex- Original Skin. But you were hardly a Face were you, Sir ? You just bought some shoes and shirts from The Squire Shop. Just the fact that you use the 'Skinhead' tag marks you down as one of the kiddos. 'Skinhead' was a tabloid invention. The real stylers had no part in it.
You also moan about the price of things quite a lot I've noticed. Then and now. No real styler ever does that. They turn to petty crime when they're broke just to get their clothing fix.
In short you are hardly a clothing obsessive, Sir. Good for you. It means you are sane.

Nope. He always says he wasn't a Face. But he was aware of what was going on. Because he was really into style and you were not.
- I really like you. I'd drink with you any day. But you are no kind of clothes person.
Where is your madness ? That's the test !

The notion on a 'Face' is a laughable one, with visions of Sting prancing about in 'Quadrophenia. It was not like that in 68/69. There were certain trouble makers you would avoid but the look was fairly straightforward and it was only a matter of how much of it you had. Obviously you had to be in London and know where you could get it. But that was about it really.
Another thing about Rowland is that Catholic schools in Harrow/ NW London was a fairly small world. Nobody ever talks about Rowland. Nobody mentions knowing of him. I find that strange.
