Some observations:
General
1. A lot of the problem is the general shape of the general populace. Whereas Christian Bale or Brad Pitt can pull of anything, a pear or wireshaped guy never will look good. A lot of "Spreza" is just looking good. Post #18.
2. The photographers are really not aware of perspective. A lot of pictures suffer from the giant head syndrome. There's a reason there are standards focal lengths for portrait photography. Posts: #2751 #2839 for example. Or #2795 where the small subject is being butchered by a truly unflattering angle.
3. These guys are not profesional models, so their stance is "wooden". Again: #18. Some or better at it, for example Mafoofan who at least strikes a pose, but he has a serious shoe issue which always stresses his size. #1206 for a nice example of his shoe problem.
4. Most of these guys dress up completely unacceptable for work. Call me conservative, but there's a reason blue and grey are staples of work suites. You truly can't show up in an old color with a caleidoscopic hanky on your chest and expect to be taken serious. #525 #1421
5. These guys dress anachronistic. Why would someone dress in a style which existed before he was born? #846 #1465
6. The love for Brown and kaki really associates with old men colors. #148 #844
7. They dress out of their age: #844 =>Double breasted is Big Hitter style... few can pull it off. Look how this old man looks, #874. It would be a disaster on a young guy.
8. Somehow there's a lot of problems on the shoe-territory, which is surprising considering they pick the good brands. I see loafers, Suede, Lighter teints, brogueing etc. It's rather distracting. A nice black Oxford toecap/wholecut is a much better idea. Cognac is sometimes okay, but Mahogany shiny derby's are just too much. #1473 #14759.
9. In the end it's the fetish with bespoke that is problematic. Bespoke has died out for many reasons, not just cost. In many cases mass production is more consistent in quality. If these guys went with (for example) Suit Supply MTM they would probably get just as good a fit and at least look contemporary. And save a huge amount of cash in the process. yes, bespoke can look fantastic and has it's place, but it's not for everyone.
Specific towards this forum:
10. Sometimes the critique seems to harsh. Barring tailoring disasters or clear errors sometimes I can't see the tailoring issue. I'm not an expert, but I do hire people and do hold a lot of contract meetings. This indicates that the faux pas isn't really significant (note that my bar is: suitable for work, not looking a clown). For example #402. Or #1256 where the lower two are pretty acceptable.
