Re: Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

Suede shoes are unfit for the country, wear them at a farm or even at a sweaty gig, and they're ruined. They're for and of the city, in my opinion.

I loved the Smiths too Formby, can't abide them now. In '87 when The Queen Is Dead was doing the rounds, I was thankfully still digging Cafe Bleau by The Style Council. Along with the Fine Young Cannibals, but also alas, Terence Trent Derby and The Housemartins.

Re: Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

John Wayne would never wear suede shoes.
He said he would be standing at the urinal taking a leak. Somebody would recognise and turn to speak.
Shoes spoilt.

I have several pairs. I generally wear them when wearing my alligator shoes would be too much.......

Black suede can have a very elegant look to it.  It adds depth & can appear even "blacker" than smooth calf.

Re: Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

Glad to see this thread revived.  Suede shoes are part of the holy grail of igentry, they seem to believe you can wear them wherever and subsitute them for other sheos at any point.  I like them, but I don't see how they work in place of serious shoes like black caps.

isshinryu101 - you are quite crazy.  You must be sneaking shoes into the house late at night to get them past your wife.  What do you say to her when she notices the collection is continuing to grow? Spontaneous reproduction?

Re: Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

I'm going sick for suede. Chukkas, desert boots and shoes.

Nothing high end,  neither big timer or small timer, I'm a militant mildly spoken medium timer.

Today dark brown suede semi brogue, grey suit with a slight sharkskin look.

I saw some where an interview with Boyer were he said he mainly only wears brown suede shoes now and he said something about its all an older man needs for everything. Makes sense to me.

Re: Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

Looking back I think I used to dress too "hard" in many ways.

Suede softens the whole look up a bit and has a light whiff of the louche lounge lizard I like. If the footwear in suede isn't scuffed it looks rich and sumptuous in a refined elusive way.

I'm inclined to dark brown suede footwear is all the older gentleman needs.

Re: Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

I like suede for a change of pace. I have the A-E Stanford chukka boot in suede, the somewhat dressier A-E Hancock (a split-toe blucher), a pair of cheap Ralph Lauren ivory bucks and a pair of A-E spectators with white suede.

White bucks are a hassle to keep looking decent, but dark brown suede is very easy to maintain, I have found.

I have a pair of Clark's desert boots in suede, along with a brown split-toe Faconnable made by AE, and a brown Alden plain-toe blucher -- all casual, though I will occasionally wear the latter with a sportcoat to work.

Re: Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

Got a pair of suede leather sole desert boots by Church's the other day. l'm not into suede footwear, but l thought it would be good to wear something different once or twice a year.

l don't understand blokes who wear suede shoos with a typical fine wool city suit. Urk, what a wierd look!

I have a pair of blue suede magnanni chukkas and they just go perfect with jeans/chinos for me.

Re: Suede shoos - love or indifferent?

I have three pairs now brown and 2 xnavy blue. One wingtip one PTB. They get a reasonable amount of wear. Never with suits.
