Someone should refer to Brian Williams tonight talking about seeing the family who wore turned up collars on polo shirts together with tweed jackets. What struck me tonight was how long they wore their hairstyles during the 50's.
Someday the world will recognize how these people were Conservative politicians. I know this is a clothes site. All of the brothers were New England or tailored in England dressers. They were the most conservative politicians of the age. I could defend this view, but at this point it hardly matters. It is analagous to explaining how FDR was the great captitalist of the 20th century. All of the Democratic politicians were great style icons. and they were the great conservatives of my lifetime.

All that I want to say is that the most radical people you can think of are, in fact, the most conservative people you can imagine.
A hawk is a hawk, according to the horseshoe theory
In a family of great dressers, Ted was probably the best dressed of any of them. His clothes were custom made. But I don't know where he shopped.
Politics aside (I've always thought of that family was progressive, not conservative or liberal) I wish the old timer Godspeed, and I hope whereever he is now it has an open bar and lots of women with big tits.
I consider the Kennedys to be the original Ivy poseurs. The whole Camelot shit Jackie started is "most trad-ly."
But they were well-dressed and impressive politicians, and they knew how to have fun, even if I would not have voted for them.

One or two of them would be at Andover Shop every so often too.
I find it interesting to think of the Kennedy's as conservative. It may or may not be off the mark. Common enough to be culturally conservative in some respects, while politcally and economically liberal or "progressive." But I'd be curious to have ol' Tom flesh this out. Will he grace us with an elucidation?
Conservative= Preserving the traditions that exist. Radical= Overthrowing the present status. By that definition, the Kennedys-particularly JFK-were conservative.
And the fun of American Conservatives is always that they are not.
America should be more like France was if it was true to its roots.
A Republic.
A child of the Enlightenment.
The point of America is that it should be the land of the free.
And that extends to wearing a button-down with a double-breasted suit!

Campaign contributions call the shots in the US. They are everything.
Serfs ruled by oligarchs.
Britain has been drawn into the American style of politics. Press coverage is all. It is just less transparent who is pulling the strings.
The conservative rally cry, per Kate Fox:
What do we want?
Gradual change!
When do we want it?
In due course!
