Re: The should we boycott Israel thread

Threads like this one never fail to further illuminate my ignorance of such affairs -- frankly thankful that living where I do this sort of thing is purely academic.

As a plastic paddy of a sort myself, my observation would be that among the Irish, as no doubt the Jews, the smart ones long ago left "the old sod" and its desert equivalent. smile

Hmmmm, all very interesting, but how will all this banter get us back the wealth and the manufacturing base that has been transferred to the BRICS?

What you going to do about it?  That's right, nothing.

Smoke filled rooms, things always better back in the day and in the old country, and the people amongst whom you live being the ones you most dislike. What's not to like? smile

Re: The should we boycott Israel thread

Anyone know anything about the various types of construction used in the different sides' battle fatigues? Was also going to say...no...yes...no...yes why does the whole world think that it is OK to take the piss out of indigenous white British people? It seems that prejudice, by way of heedless generalization, becomes objectionable only when some other grouping is in issue!

Re: The should we boycott Israel thread

Come on, Formby! You need a plastic packet to rustle for this! It wasn't half the world it was one third of the land mass; just all of the oceans. As for the rest: I do happen to think that the country is going to the dogs and I used to contribute to The Spectator on-line but I do not hanker after the divides of yore; I simply expect my conformity with the general policy of eradication of observation of racial difference to be reciprocated, in our changing times. It really is as simple as that. Anyway, I was obliquely defending the Irish - and most of them are left-footers. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Again, some of them are my best friends. Moreover GGS's facile observations on Brasil just mirror popular misconceptions: there are, I am sure, divides here but they are merely economic divides and no one that I know (and I know quite a lot of people in this town), observes any other. As for kids being rounded-up by the police - I am sure that it happens in biug cities but not in the vast majority of places. Indeed, the degree to which people look out for each other is refreshing. But, hell, armchair travellers wouldn't know that.

Uh Uh Uh - I had no intention of giving elbow-room for Nazi-apologists - much the same crap could be said in favour of the mafia or the Kray Bros. When laws break down; once the Grundnorms are forsaken, there is little to be gained in praying in aid the good that was merely incidental to the rule of an evil beyond our modern experience.

Re: The should we boycott Israel thread

on the other hand the camp guards werent necessarily german, or soldiers for that matter, and thus generally not held to the same "standards". "ivan the terrible" comes to mind, whether or not he spent his retirement from SS service making cars in cleveland. neither were many "german soldiers"...... by the end of the war there were scores of conscripts and volunteers from the occupied east , on occaision hastily reclassified as "volksdeutsch".... whether it was in the official concentration camp employee bylaws book or not i find it hard to believe that people depraved  enough to exterminate kids would spend their off duty time taking polish peasant girls to dinner and movies in search of a lay.

Re: The should we boycott Israel thread

heydrich had his grandparents records (and a tombstone) destroyed. apparently the grandmothers name sounded heavily jewish, whether there was more to the rumor or not is argued. wasnt aware of milch's case, interesting.
