Thanks Duluth that was great.
Leslie Caron in The L-Shaped Room. Julie Christie, and her tartan duffle bag, in Billy Liar.
My tastes are frozen in time.
And yes Adrienne Posta in Up The Junction. That cheekiness and energy, and cute and fleshy too. Phwooar!
AFS:DW is, I'm afraid, pathetic; exactly what FNB should not turn into.
Uh, this is literally the forum that is world famous for the Inane thread
^ Very true Doghouse - the Inane thread was on The Wardrobe section of this site and most of the posts on the DW Trainwreck thread are made by … former posters on The Wardrobe!
I think most TI posters spent little time on The Wardrobe.
I rarely looked at The Wardrobe. Too stupid to understand it really.
DW came to my attention when several of their posters, all of whom had contributed at some time or other to 'Talk Ivy', had a brief discussion as to whether I existed or not. I assume they had all recently taken courses in some branch of philosophy. 'I think therefore I spout gibberish'? One - 'Sauce' he calls himself now - I remember as a nice chap from, I think, Norway.
^ There seemed to be a whiff of dandyism and one upmanship around expensive items, made to measure, gaudy fabrics and hideous ties. I can’t recall many pictures being posted apart from Shooman’s shoe acquisitions, they could have all been sitting around in shell suits for all anyone knew.
Woof, I think you've nailed it there. A good deal of MTM, interest in Zegna etc. Expensive shoes.
Has anyone taken note of those £12.500 Grenson on Ebay? Probably came from Shooman's extensive collection.
Woof: Yes indeed my friend. Does point out that FNB has from the start been what AFS has dubbed 'pathetic'. It's the raison d'etre of this entire site.
AFS: MTM? The Wardrobe? We are a bespoke lot.
Bespoke it is, then. Very nice, too. You must attend a great many funerals and weddings. Or job interviews.
I strongly suspect, though, dogsbreath, that, like your friend Sammy, you may find yourself out in the cold. Moleskins and all.
Doubtful.
'One - 'Sauce' he calls himself now - I remember as a nice chap from, I think, Norway.'
He's from Leicester but based in Norway for as long as I can recall. I'll never forget his tale of someone telling him his tie 'wasn't mod'. If someone said that to me I think I would actually be lost for words.
The Wardrobe used to be really good with some great posters who have now disappeared.
Beestonplace was very entertaining and funny. He could have easily passed for a non Ivy Jim creation.
Beeston was a riot
