George VI's recorded speeches can be heard on youtube and they are, owing to the circumstances and all the apparent effort and strain, extremely touching.

Are we now talking about the Little Dook or George VI? I am sure that George VI was admired for the way that he and The Firm did not scuttle off to Canada (as they might have done) but stayed to face the music (and Buckingham Palace was actually bombed).

Exactly.  In modern age, a royal family has very few actual uses, and one of them is to inspire steadfastness, resolve, and courage in times of dire crisis.  They certainly did that during the war.  The larger part of the credit certainly goes to the British people, but the royals did their part - the Duke excepted maybe.

Churchill too.  An interesting guy - born at the wrong time, completely out of sync before and after the war, but exactly in tune during the largest crisis of his time.

Three episodes . The last one with the stuff in Morocco was particularly beautiful...the Mamounia Hotel and the souk called Jema n Finaa in Marrakesh etc. Years ago (1970s) you could fly directly from Brazil to Morocco on Air Maroque.

I saw a clip on youtube and see that it was produced in 2004 so I wonder how I missed it. Morocco was a country that we considered living in. Of course, Marrakesh, Tangiers and Casablanca are always the in places and Fez is a city that is not much talked about but, with its ancient university, it certainly deserves a visit.
